Welcome to the Owner’s Mind. This is my new project, dedicated to helping online entrepreneurs build better web businesses. Part business motivation and part strategies and tactics, the goal of the Owner’s Mind is to build a community of business-minded people seeking to achieve their goals with their online business. I’ve got several years of experience in building community and content on the web, and I’ve had a few years of experimenting (sometimes successfully, and sometimes not) with online business. Between me and the other experts I’m able to bring to conversations with you here at The Owner’s Mind, you’ll find lots of information and tools and motivation to get things moving.
Why Motivation?
Why do I keep highlighting motivation? The answer is that I think you have a lot of information already. I bet you’re buying books, attending courses, downloading ebooks and programs, and you’re still not quite getting it done. Know why? Because no one’s there to answer the nagging questions, no one’s there to hold you accountable, and to keep you from falling into the pit of despair. This group, The Owner’s Mind, is built around the idea that you’re not alone, that it’s not wrong to want to build business on the web (ethical business where your goal is to help your buyers and to deliver value), and that you can work better towards your goals if you’re motivated, if you learn to motivate yourself, and if you have questions, others here will have them, too. We’ll answer them together.
Building Business
I’ve been involved in social media and social networks and blogging since the 80s. A lot of what I do falls into the “community building” side of the world. Over the last few years, since about 2006, I’ve learned over time and with a lot of help (and failure) how to build businesses online. I’ve done everything from co-create an international event series to build an online education company from scratch, funding it with my professional speaking money. I co-wrote a New York Times bestseller and have worked in several capacities online.
My current interest in helping web entrepreneurs stems from my own experiences of the past few months. I’ve been learning what works and what doesn’t work from the traditional Internet marketers, and then adapting it and blending it into the world of social networks and social media. (If this sounds a bit influenced by what we built at Third Tribe Marketing, then you’re not wrong.) What have I learned? I’ve learned how to build targeted lists to market products. I’ve learned how to build useful information products that actually help others build business. I’ve learned how to build sales pages that work, and I’ve learned how to take that old timey sales letter copy that seems so cheesy, and make it work for the modern crowd.
Lots of Interviews And Partners
I don’t think it’s useful to learn from just me. Instead, I’ve built several relationships over the past few years that will also be helpful to our projects (yours AND mine). You’ll get lots in the way of interviews here that will also prove valuable. Some will be free to people who subscribe to the email list. Others will be for sale. It depends on the level of actionable value, and/or where you and I are in the process.
Read the About Page
If you haven’t read the about page, you should. That’ll give you just a tad more background to what we hope to accomplish here.
4H4M
In summing up the 8 pieces of The Owner’s Mind, I came up with this, the 4H4M approach:
- Home
- Heart
- Here
- Hustle
- Muscle
- Media
- Marketing
- Money
In roughly that order is how we will build your own Owner’s Mind (from the motivation side), and how we’ll deliver value to our own audiences of buyers. We’ll talk more about what those eight things mean, and many posts will be broken into one of those eight categories, so that if you feel you need lessons about “Here,” you can get to those easily. It’ll make more sense as we go along.
